Jameer Nelson and the Pick N Roll
The Pick 'N' Roll offensive play has gone from just becoming popular and more frequently used in the 1990's to becoming the most used offensive plays in basketball.
In simplest terms, the Pick 'N' Roll or Screen and Roll play involves three players. A ball handler, a teammate of the ball handler and a defender. As the defender is paying attention to the ball handler, the teammate or screen puts themselves in the way of the defender, or sets the "pick". The defender must now choose between the two players when presented this dilemma.
If the defender decides to start guarding the player who set the pick, the original ball handler can now pass or shoot at will relatively uncontested. If the defender decides to stay with their original target, the second player who set the pick can now "Roll" towards the basket to become a target for the ball handler's pass.
In Jameer Nelson's nearly 15 year career in the NBA he put the Pick 'N' Roll to good use many, many times. In the below video, we see Orlando Magic teammate Marcin Gortat and Jameer executing the Pick 'N' Roll with perfect results.
